The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (Immigratie en Naturalisatiedienst or IND) is a division of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice which handles the admission of foreigners in the Netherlands.

Whether you wish to move, study, or are seeking asylum in the Netherlands, the IND will be the organization with which your application will be processed. They will be your main source of information and contact throughout the process.

IND Responsibilities and Duties

Their work is mostly taken up with applications for residency permits and visas for people wishing to stay a short time in the Netherlands.

If you have been living in the Netherlands for some time and would like to become a naturalised Dutch citizen with a Dutch passport, they can help you with that as well.

They also help people who feel unsafe in their home country to seek asylum in the Netherlands.

How to contact the IND

There are many ways to get in touch with the IND, which we state below.

Please note that they sometimes receive large numbers of enquiries, which may lead to long wait times in all forms of contact.

Remember to have your V-number (file number) handy if you want to discuss your application. You can also find the V-number on the back of your plastic residence card.
